Quick answer: HeyGen's free plan is 3 one-minute watermarked videos a month, Creator at $29 is the first publishable tier, and a year of it runs roughly $348

HeyGen's free plan, per the official pricing page checked September 14, 2026, allows 3 videos a month at up to 1 minute each, with no watermark removal listed — enough to evaluate the avatars, not to publish. Creator at $29/month adds watermark removal, 1080p export, videos up to 30 minutes, 600 monthly credits with rollovers, and 175+ languages and dialects. Pro at $49 adds 4K and all advanced AI models; Business at $149 adds 60-minute videos, 5 custom avatars, SCORM export, and SSO. Multiplied out, Creator is roughly $348 a year on monthly billing — a yearly toggle exists but its figures were not captured, so verify. Before subscribing, batch-video buyers should price-check Wizstar, whose Starter plan renews at $18.05/month after an $8.99 promotional first month, under a limited-time campaign at the time of checking.

Verdict: HeyGen’s free plan is an evaluation pass, and $29 Creator is where publishable video begins

Based on the official heygen.com pricing page checked on September 14, 2026, on the monthly billing cycle, HeyGen’s free plan gives you 3 videos a month at up to 1 minute each — with Avatar IV access, 500+ stock video avatars, 1 custom video avatar, up to 3 photo avatars, 1 voice clone, and 30+ languages — but watermark removal is not listed, so those free exports carry the mark. That makes the free tier a way to judge whether the avatars clear your bar, not a way to ship client work. The first tier you can publish from is Creator at $29 per month: watermark removal, 1080p export, videos up to 30 minutes, 600 monthly credits with rollovers, and 175+ languages and dialects. Pro at $49 exists for 4K and access to all advanced AI models; Business at $149 exists for teams and training stacks. Multiplied out, Creator runs roughly $348 a year on monthly billing — and if your job is batch product video rather than a signature presenter, it is worth a five-minute price check on Wizstar, whose entry plan renews at $18.05 a month, before you commit.

How this pricing guide was prepared

Every HeyGen figure here comes from the official heygen.com pricing page, checked on September 14, 2026, on the monthly billing cycle; every Wizstar figure comes from the official wizstar.com pricing page checked the same day, where all prices were shown under a limited-time campaign at the time of checking. We have not run a production benchmark on either platform for this article, and we make no claims about avatar realism or render quality — this is a close reading of published plans plus arithmetic. Wherever we multiply a monthly price into a yearly total, the result is labeled roughly, because it is derived, not quoted. Both sites offer a yearly billing toggle whose figures we did not capture, so flip that toggle yourself before paying. Our standards are described in How We Evaluate Software.

What HeyGen’s free plan actually allows — and what it is really for

HeyGen’s $0 plan is unusually well stocked with avatar features and unusually strict on output. On the page we reviewed it includes:

Put those together and the free plan’s purpose becomes obvious: it is an evaluation pass, not a production tier. Three one-minute watermarked videos is exactly enough to test an avatar on your own script, hear your cloned voice read it, and try one translation — and exactly not enough to publish anything a client or audience will see. That is a fair deal at $0, as long as you read it as a structured trial. Judge the avatar quality and the workflow with your three videos, and treat the watermark as the signal of where the free plan wants you to go next.

HeyGen publishes four self-serve tiers plus a sales-led Enterprise plan. All prices below are monthly-cycle figures from the official pricing page, checked September 14, 2026; a yearly toggle exists on the page, but we did not capture its figures, so verify the annual rates yourself.

How the credit system works, as published

Paid usage is metered in credits: 600 a month on Creator, 1,000 on Pro, 1,500 on Business, with Creator explicitly listing credit rollovers so unused allowance carries forward. What the captured page did not spell out is a conversion rate — how many credits one video of a given length, model, and resolution consumes — so we will not invent one. Practically, that means you cannot compute cost per video from the pricing page alone; you learn your real burn rate by making videos. The free plan’s three test videos, and Creator’s first month, are where that number comes from. The page also claims 100,000+ businesses use HeyGen; that is HeyGen’s own figure.

The limits that trigger each upgrade

The watermark and the 1-minute cap push you to Creator ($29)

Almost everyone who pays HeyGen anything pays for this step. The free tier’s watermark and 1-minute ceiling rule out publishing; Creator removes the watermark, unlocks 1080p, and stretches videos to 30 minutes. It also happens to carry the features individual creators actually use daily: unlimited voice cloning, unlimited photo avatars, and 175+ languages and dialects.

4K, advanced models, and translation proofing push you to Pro ($49)

Pro is a quality-and-control tier, not a volume tier: 4K export, faster processing, access to all advanced AI models, and the ability to edit and proofread the translation script before a video renders. That last feature is the quiet reason localization-sensitive buyers pick Pro — if a mistranslated line has a real cost, proofing before render is worth $20 a month on its own.

Teams, hour-long videos, and the learning stack push you to Business ($149)

Business is where HeyGen becomes infrastructure: videos up to 60 minutes, 5 custom video avatars for a roster of named presenters, SAML/SSO, interactive video with quizzes and links, SCORM export, and LMS plus n8n, Make, HubSpot, and Zapier integrations, with additional seats at $20 per seat per month. If none of those phrases names your problem, Business is the tier you should not buy.

Real yearly cost, in rough numbers

HeyGen quotes per-month prices; budgets are annual. The table multiplies the official monthly figures by twelve, so every total is derived arithmetic — treat each as roughly right, and remember the uncaptured yearly toggle may price a genuine annual commitment differently. Verify before buying.

ScenarioPlanRoughly, per year
Evaluating avatars, publishing nothingFree$0
Solo creator publishing watermark-free 1080pCreator, $29/monthRoughly $348
Solo pro needing 4K or translation proofingPro, $49/monthRoughly $588
Training team on the base Business seatBusiness, $149/monthRoughly $1,788
Business plus two extra seats at $20 eachBusiness + 2 seatsRoughly $2,268

The jumps are the story. Creator to Pro is a 69% price increase for quality and control; Pro to Business is a tripling for team and LMS plumbing. Decide by naming the single feature forcing each jump — if you cannot name one, stay a tier lower. And since the yearly toggle’s discount was not visible on our capture, anyone confident of a full year of use should check the annual price before paying twelve monthly invoices.

When a different tool is worth a price check first

HeyGen’s pricing is shaped around one flagship presenter: your avatar, your voice, one polished video at a time. If your actual job is volume — product ads in batches, many variants across many models — the shape of the pricing matters more than the level, and that is the case for a five-minute detour to Wizstar’s pricing page before you subscribe to anything.

Per the official wizstar.com pricing page checked September 14, 2026 — where every price was shown under a limited-time campaign at the time of checking — Wizstar Starter costs $8.99 for a promotional first month and renews at $18.05 a month, for 1,310 credits with a stated ceiling of up to 32 videos, watermark-free exports, and cancel anytime. Plus is $36.27 a month under the campaign (list price $69.99) with 2,690 credits and up to 67 videos; Pro is $166.32 (list $359.99) with 13,040 credits and up to 326 videos. The platform bundles 10+ major models, including Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0, and MiniMax H3, wraps them in a product-link-to-video workflow for e-commerce, and lists video in any language on every plan. Its annual toggle advertises up to 53% off, with figures we did not capture.

Three honest cautions before you compare. First, campaign pricing can end: the number your checkout shows, not the number above, is your price, and the list prices are materially higher. Second, HeyGen credits and Wizstar credits are different units in different systems with no published conversion, so comparing credit counts across platforms is meaningless — compare cost per finished video for your job, which only a real test reveals. Third, Wizstar’s captured page showed no free plan, and HeyGen is the one whose page explicitly documents custom avatar cloning. We walk the full head-to-head in our Wizstar vs HeyGen comparison and unpack the credit arithmetic in our Wizstar review.

Who should just buy HeyGen

Plenty of readers should skip the detour and pay HeyGen without another tab open. Go straight to HeyGen Creator at $29 a month if most of these are true:

Choose Pro if 4K, the advanced models, or proofed translations are non-negotiable, and Business only if 60-minute videos, five custom avatars, SCORM, an LMS integration, or SSO is the specific feature your organization is buying. Stay on the free plan without guilt while you are still evaluating — that is what it is for. And if your job turned out to be batch product video rather than a signature presenter, run the cheaper test first: put one real product brief through Wizstar’s entry plan and let the per-video arithmetic, not the brand, make the call.

Frequently asked questions

Is HeyGen free?

HeyGen has a real free plan, per the official pricing page checked September 14, 2026: 3 videos a month at up to 1 minute each, with Avatar IV access, 500+ stock video avatars, 1 custom video avatar, up to 3 photo avatars, 1 voice clone, and 30+ languages at standard processing speed. Watermark removal is not listed on the free tier, so treat it as an evaluation pass — enough to judge avatar quality on your own script, not enough to publish client-facing video.

How much is HeyGen per month?

On the monthly billing cycle checked September 14, 2026: Creator is $29/month with 600 credits, watermark removal, 1080p, and videos up to 30 minutes; Pro is $49/month with 1,000 credits, 4K, and all advanced AI models; Business is $149/month with 1,500 credits, 60-minute videos, 5 custom avatars, and SSO, plus $20 per additional seat per month. Enterprise is custom-priced. A yearly billing toggle exists, but we did not capture its figures — verify the annual rates on the official page.

Does HeyGen watermark videos?

On the free plan, yes in practice: watermark removal is not listed there, per the official pricing page checked September 14, 2026, so free exports carry the mark. Watermark removal is listed from the Creator plan at $29/month, alongside 1080p export. If watermark-free output is the requirement, Creator is the entry price; confirm the current wording on heygen.com before buying, since plan terms can change.

What are HeyGen credits?

Credits are HeyGen's usage meter on paid plans: 600 a month on Creator, 1,000 on Pro, and 1,500 on Business, with Creator explicitly listing credit rollovers so unused credits carry forward. The pricing page we captured did not publish a conversion rate — how many credits one video of a given length, model, or resolution consumes — so we won't state one. The practical way to learn your burn rate is to make real videos on the free tier or a first Creator month and divide credits spent by videos produced.

Is there a cheaper alternative to HeyGen?

For batch product video, Wizstar's entry pricing is lower: per its official pricing page checked September 14, 2026, Starter costs $8.99 for a promotional first month, renews at $18.05/month, and includes 1,310 credits with a stated ceiling of up to 32 watermark-free videos — against HeyGen Creator at $29. Two caveats: every Wizstar price was shown under a limited-time campaign at the time of checking, and the two platforms' credits are different units with no published conversion, so compare cost per finished video for your own job, not credit counts.

Is HeyGen cheaper billed yearly?

Probably — but we cannot quote it. HeyGen's pricing page shows a yearly billing toggle, but our September 14, 2026 capture recorded only the monthly-cycle prices, so this article's yearly totals ($29 × 12 = roughly $348 for Creator, roughly $588 for Pro, roughly $1,788 for Business) are derived from monthly rates. If you are confident you'll use HeyGen for a full year, flip the yearly toggle on the official pricing page and compare the quoted annual figure before paying month to month.
