DomoAI (from $6.99/month billed yearly) for restyling footage you already have; Runway (free 125 credits, then $12/month billed yearly) for text-to-video, editing, and pro formats.

DomoAI is a restyle-first tool: every paid plan is watermark-free, Standard at $19.59 adds unlimited Relax-mode generations, and there is no free plan. Runway is a general-purpose generation and editing suite with a free tier of 125 one-time credits, 4K upscaling from Standard, and ProRes/HDR on Max at $76. Credits are not interchangeable between the two, so the only reliable comparison is running the same clip through both. Below: a pricing table, watermark rules, a decision table by job, and a seven-day test plan.

The short answer: a restyle specialist against a general-purpose suite

Pick DomoAI if your job is turning footage you already have into anime, 3D, or illustrated styles. Pick Runway if you want one subscription for text-to-video, image-to-video, an editing toolset, and professional delivery formats. Based on the official pricing pages checked on August 24, 2026, DomoAI starts at $6.99 per month billed yearly (Basic, 500 credits, no free plan) and Runway starts at $12 per month billed yearly (Standard, 625 credits), after a free tier that gives 125 one-time credits.

These two are not really rivals. They overlap in image-to-video and text-to-video, but each is built around a different job, and the entry-level price gap is small enough that the deciding question is what you will feed the tool, not what it costs. The sections below cover pricing and credits, watermark policy, who should pick which, a decision table, and a seven-day test plan that uses Runway’s free credits and DomoAI’s cheapest plan.

How this comparison was prepared

This is an evidence-led comparison, not a lab test. We reviewed the official DomoAI and Runway pricing and product pages on August 23 and 24, 2026, and those pages are the only source of the prices, credit counts, and plan features quoted here. We did not run timed renders, score output quality, or survey users, and we make no claims about which tool produces “better” video; that depends on your footage, your prompt, and the model version on the day you use it.

Both companies change plans and credit costs without much notice. Where a detail is not published on the pricing page, such as the credit cost of a specific clip length, we tell you to check it in the app. Treat every figure as a snapshot and reconfirm at checkout.

What each tool is built to do

DomoAI: built around restyling footage

DomoAI is an AI video and image service best known for video-to-video restyling: you upload a real clip and it re-renders the frames as anime, 3D, illustration, or pixel art while keeping the original motion. Around that core it offers image-to-video, text-to-video, character animation, and image editing. Jobs run in one of two modes, Fast or Relax, and all paid plans include Seedance 2.0 cinematic video with audio, style updates, and optional credit top-ups. Our DomoAI review covers the product in more depth.

Runway: built around generation and editing

Runway positions itself as a general-purpose AI video suite used in professional workflows. It covers text-to-video, image-to-video, and video-to-video generation, and it wraps those in editing tools, storage, and delivery features such as 4K upscaling on Standard and ProRes/HDR output on Max. It can stylize existing footage, but restyling is one capability among many rather than the reason the product exists.

Where they overlap, and where they do not

Both generate clips from a text prompt or a still image and both sell credits on subscription. The difference is emphasis: DomoAI’s plans are organised around how much restyling you can do and how fast, while Runway’s plans are organised around storage, models, output formats, and team features. Either can be bent to the other’s job; you will just spend more credits and patience doing it.

Pricing and credits compared

The table shows each vendor’s published plans as of August 24, 2026. DomoAI shows its prices per month when billed yearly and advertises roughly 30% savings for annual payment; the monthly-billing figures are not stated as flat numbers, so check the checkout. Runway publishes both annual and monthly prices.

Credits are not a common currency

It is tempting to divide price by credits and call it a day. On annual billing that gives roughly 1.4 cents per DomoAI Basic credit against roughly 1.9 cents per Runway Standard credit, with the gap narrowing at higher tiers. But the two credits buy different amounts of video, because each vendor sets its own credit cost per second, model, and resolution, and neither publishes a flat rate. The only honest comparison is your own: run the same clip on both, note the deduction, and compute the cost per finished second. The trial plan below does exactly that.

Three pricing details that change the answer

Watermarks, free plans, and output formats

Watermark policy is where these two tools are most alike and most often misread. Every DomoAI paid plan, from Basic at $6.99 to Team at $99 per seat, is listed as watermark-free, and since there is no free plan, every DomoAI export you pay for comes clean. Runway lists “no watermarks” as a feature of Standard and above, which implies that free-tier exports carry one; treat Runway’s free credits as a learning budget, not a publishing budget, and confirm in the app.

Output formats favour Runway at the top end. Standard includes 4K upscaling, and Max adds ProRes and HDR, which matter if your clips go into a broadcast or agency pipeline. DomoAI lists longer upscaling on Pro and cinematic video with audio via Seedance 2.0 on every paid plan, but professional intermediate formats are not a headline feature of its plan listing. Storage is similar: Runway states 5GB on Free and 500GB on Pro, while storage is not a headline figure on DomoAI’s plans, so check in-app if you intend to keep source footage in the cloud.

Commercial use is a separate question from watermarks. A clean export is a practical signal, not a licence. Read each vendor’s terms of service for the plan you buy before using output in client work, advertising, or a monetised channel. We do not give legal advice.

Who should pick DomoAI

Who should pick Runway instead, and who should buy neither

Runway is the better fit when you do not have footage and need to generate it, when you want generation and editing inside one tool, or when your delivery spec names a professional format.

Some readers should buy neither. If you need an AI presenter reading a script, that is an avatar job for tools like Synthesia or HeyGen, covered in our guide to AI video tools for business. If you need one clip for a single project, spend Runway’s free credits and stop. And if your use depends on a specific commercial-rights guarantee, do not buy either tool until you have read the terms for the exact plan and confirmed they cover your case.

A seven-day test plan that costs as little as possible

Runway’s free credits and DomoAI’s cheapest plan are enough to answer the only question that matters: which tool gives you a usable clip at a cost per second you can live with. One caveat up front: DomoAI’s $6.99 figure is the per-month price when billed yearly, so if you are unsure, choose monthly billing for the test even though it costs more, or look for in-app trial credits before paying at all.

  1. Day 1: set up Runway free. Create the free account, confirm you have 125 credits, and find the screen that shows credit cost before a job runs. Do not generate anything yet.
  2. Day 2: pick one test clip. Choose a single 5-to-10-second clip with a face, hands, and some camera movement, the three things restylers find hardest. Export a copy at a modest resolution so both tools see the same input.
  3. Day 3: run the clip through Runway. Try one video-to-video or stylization pass and one image-to-video pass from a frame, at the lowest settings that still look acceptable. Write down the credits deducted for each.
  4. Day 4: start DomoAI Basic. Run the same clip through one anime restyle and one 3D restyle in Fast mode. Note the credit cost the app shows before each job and the deduction afterwards.
  5. Day 5: check exports. Download both results. Confirm the DomoAI export has no watermark. Check whether the Runway free export does, and note the resolution and length caps each tool applied.
  6. Day 6: do the arithmetic. For each tool, divide the subscription price by the credits per month, multiply by the credits one finished second cost you, and you have a cost per usable second. Compare that against how many seconds you publish in a month.
  7. Day 7: decide, and cancel what you do not need. If DomoAI won on your restyle and you will post weekly, plan to move to Standard at $19.59 for Relax mode rather than buying Basic top-ups. If Runway won and you need more than 125 credits, Standard at $12 per month billed yearly is the entry point. If neither produced a clip you would publish, cancel, and revisit in a few months when the models have changed.

The whole exercise costs one month of DomoAI’s cheapest plan and nothing at Runway, and it produces a number, your cost per finished second, that no review can give you. See DomoAI’s current plans before you start, since credit counts and prices can change.

Frequently asked questions

Is DomoAI cheaper than Runway?

At the entry level, yes: DomoAI Basic is $6.99 per month billed yearly against Runway Standard at $12 per month billed yearly, based on the pricing pages checked on August 24, 2026. But Runway has a free tier with 125 one-time credits and DomoAI has none, and the two vendors' credits buy different amounts of video, so the cheaper subscription is not always the cheaper cost per finished second.

Does Runway have a free plan, and does DomoAI?

Runway lists a free plan with 125 one-time credits and 5GB of storage. DomoAI has no free plan; trial credits may appear in-app for new accounts, but you should confirm that at signup rather than rely on it.

Which one adds a watermark?

All four DomoAI paid plans are listed as watermark-free, and since there is no free plan, every DomoAI export you pay for is clean. Runway lists no watermarks as a feature of Standard and above, which implies the free tier's exports carry one. Confirm in the app before publishing anything from a free account.

Can Runway restyle existing footage like DomoAI?

Runway offers video-to-video generation alongside text-to-video and image-to-video, so it can stylize footage, but it is a generation-first suite rather than a restyle specialist. If converting clips you already have is your main job, DomoAI's plans are organised around that task; our video-to-anime roundup explains the difference.

What is DomoAI's Relax mode, and does Runway have one?

Relax mode is a lower-priority queue on DomoAI Standard ($19.59 per month billed yearly) and above that allows unlimited generations after your monthly credits are spent. Runway's published plans do not list an equivalent; credit rollover on Runway is listed only on Max at $76 per month billed yearly.

Can I use videos from DomoAI or Runway commercially?

A watermark-free export is not a licence. Both vendors set commercial-use rules in their terms of service, and those can differ by plan. Read the terms for the exact plan you intend to buy and confirm they cover client work, advertising, or monetised channels before you rely on the output. We do not provide legal advice.
