Coursera ($399 a year for Plus, or about $49 a month per certificate) for brand-name credentials and breadth; 365 Data Science ($29 a month billed annually) for one guided road to data science.
Coursera Plus covers 10,000+ courses and most Professional Certificates, including the Google, IBM and Meta programs, but leaves the sequencing to you. 365 Data Science sequences 133 courses into 12 career tracks with AI mock interviews and portfolio feedback, but its certificates carry the platform's own name. The annual prices sit close together at $399 against about $348, so decide by shape, not price. Both can be tested cheaply: Coursera offers free auditing and a 7-day Plus Monthly trial, and 365 Data Science has a no-card free plan plus a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Coursera vs 365 Data Science: the short answer
Choose Coursera if the name on the certificate has to do work for you, or if your interests run wider than data; choose 365 Data Science if you want one guided, beginner-first path through statistics, Python, SQL and machine learning. Coursera Plus lists at $399 per year in the US ($59 on the monthly plan), and a single Professional Certificate — including the Google Career Certificates — runs about $49 per month on its own, based on the official Coursera pages checked August 23, 2026. The 365 Data Science Self-Study plan costs $29 per month billed annually (about $348 a year, advertised as a 20% saving) or $36 per month billed monthly, based on the official pricing pages checked August 24, 2026, and it bundles 133 courses, 12 career tracks, 51 projects, certificates, AI mock interviews and portfolio feedback.
On money the two annual routes sit close together — about $348 against $399 — so the real decision is about shape. Coursera gives you 10,000+ courses and credentials carrying Google, IBM, Meta and university names, and leaves the sequencing to you. 365 Data Science decides the order for you and adds interview practice, but its certificates carry the platform’s own name. If neither shape fits, the section on buying neither is below. Both platforms can be tested cheaply first: Coursera through free auditing and a 7-day trial on Plus Monthly, 365 Data Science through a free plan with no card and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

How this comparison was prepared
This is a documentation-based comparison, not a completion diary. We did not finish programs on either platform under these subscriptions, and we make no claims about completion rates, job outcomes or teaching quality beyond what the public pages describe. All Coursera figures come from the official pricing, product and help pages checked on August 23, 2026; all 365 Data Science figures come from the official pricing and product pages checked on August 24, 2026.
Both platforms in this head-to-head are affiliate partners: the Coursera and 365 Data Science links in this article use affiliate identifiers, which may earn RIA LLC a commission at no extra cost to you. Because both sides pay the same way, we have no financial reason to tilt the verdict in either direction, and the sections below send different readers to different platforms — and some readers away from both. Our editorial policy explains how we keep commissions separate from conclusions. Prices are US list prices; both companies use regional pricing and run promotions, so treat the checkout page as the authority.
What each platform actually is
Coursera: a catalogue with famous names on the certificates
Coursera Plus is a flat-fee subscription over most of the Coursera catalogue: 10,000+ courses from university and industry partners including Stanford, Yale, Michigan and Imperial, plus Guided Projects, Specializations and most Professional Certificates — among them the Google Career Certificates in Data Analytics, IT Support, Project Management, Cybersecurity, UX Design and Digital Marketing, and programs from Meta and IBM — with unlimited certificates on completion. You do not have to buy Plus at all: a single Professional Certificate can be taken on its own subscription at about $49 per month until you finish, and Coursera’s guidance is that a working adult typically needs 3–6 months for one.
The exclusions matter. Plus does not include degrees or MasterTrack certificates, and certain courses, Specializations and Professional Certificates sit outside it. Coursera publishes no master list of exclusions, so the reliable check is the “Included with Coursera Plus” label on your target program’s page before you pay.
365 Data Science: one road, walked in order
365 Data Science makes the opposite bet: instead of a catalogue, it sells a sequence. The Self-Study plan includes 133 courses covering statistics, Python, SQL, machine learning and the tooling around them, organised into 12 career tracks that tell you what to learn in what order, plus 51 projects, exercises and practice exams. You earn certificates for courses and tracks, and the two features that go beyond a video library are the AI mock interviews and portfolio feedback. There is also priority support and a learning-break option that lets you pause a subscription rather than cancel it.
Its free plan costs $0 with no card and includes course previews, all 51 projects, exercises, practice exams, career resources and one AI mock interview. What the platform is not: a university partner. It issues no degrees, the certificates carry the 365 Data Science name rather than an employer’s, and the catalogue covers data roles only.
Pricing compared
The Coursera figures below are from the official pages checked August 23, 2026; the 365 Data Science figures are from the official pages checked August 24, 2026. All are US list prices.
| Coursera | 365 Data Science | |
|---|---|---|
| Annual route | Plus Annual: $399 per year (about $33 per month) | Self-Study annual: $29 per month billed annually (about $348 a year; advertised as saving 20%) |
| Monthly route | Plus Monthly: $59 per month | Self-Study monthly: $36 per month |
| Pay-per-program | Single Professional Certificate: about $49 per month until you finish; typically 3–6 months, so roughly $150–$300 | Lifetime plan at a custom pay-once price |
| Free way in | Many courses can be audited free (lectures and readings, no graded work or certificate); 7-day free trial on Plus Monthly | Free plan, no card: course previews, all 51 projects, exercises, practice exams, career resources, 1 AI mock interview |
| Refund | Refund request window of up to 14 days on Plus Annual; certificates earned in that window are revoked if you refund | 30-day money-back guarantee on Self-Study |
| Catalogue | 10,000+ courses, Guided Projects, Specializations, most Professional Certificates | 133 courses, 12 career tracks, 51 projects |
| Credential | Google, IBM, Meta and university names | Platform certificates for courses and tracks |
Three readings of that table. First, the annual subscriptions are only $51 apart, so if you were choosing purely on yearly cost the answer would be a coin toss; the shape of the catalogue should decide it instead. Second, for one specific credential the cheapest Coursera route is usually not Plus at all: a single certificate at about $49 per month over a typical 3–6 months costs roughly $150–$300, which can undercut both subscriptions. Coursera’s own break-even is that Plus Annual only beats a single $49-per-month certificate if that program takes you more than about eight months — but three programs billed separately could cost $450–$900, which is where Plus wins clearly. Third, the safety nets differ in your favour on the 365 Data Science side: a 30-day money-back guarantee is a longer honest test than Coursera’s 7-day trial or the up-to-14-day annual refund window, and 365 Data Science adds a free plan that never expires.
Who each platform fits
Choose Coursera if…
- The credential has to pass a screen. Certificates from Google, IBM, Meta and universities carry more recognition than most online credentials. If a hiring filter or a CV headline is the point, this is the decisive difference.
- You are stacking programs. Someone planning three or more certificates or Specializations in a year comes out ahead on Plus Annual at $399, against $450–$900 for the same programs billed separately.
- Your interests run wider than data. The catalogue spans far beyond data roles, so a career changer still weighing analytics against project management or UX keeps options open.
- You want the university brand. Stanford, Yale, Michigan and Imperial courses are in the catalogue, and Plus removes the per-course purchase decision.
- You want an analytics entry point, not a full data-science curriculum. The Google Data Analytics certificate is a self-contained program at about $49 per month on its own.
Choose 365 Data Science if…
- You want to be told the order. The 12 career tracks sequence statistics, Python, SQL and machine learning into one road; Coursera leaves that curriculum design to you.
- Data science, not data analytics, is the goal. The curriculum includes statistics and machine learning as subjects, which an entry-level analytics certificate does not set out to cover.
- You will use the interview and portfolio features. AI mock interviews and portfolio feedback are the paid features that a course catalogue does not offer.
- You want the cheapest honest test. The free plan includes all 51 projects and one mock interview with no card, and the paid plan carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.
- Your schedule is irregular. The learning-break option lets you pause instead of cancelling and resubscribing.
Who should buy neither
Some readers should keep their money, and it is cheaper to know that now.
- You need a degree or university credit. 365 Data Science does not offer them, and Coursera’s degrees and MasterTrack certificates are priced and admitted separately — they are not part of Plus.
- You need a quick tool skill, not a credential. If the goal is enough Excel or SQL for your current job by next week, a marketplace course with lifetime access can be the better buy than any subscription.
- Your study record says you will not use it. A subscription unused after six weeks is the most expensive option on this page. Both platforms’ refund windows exist so you can test your real pace before the money is sunk.
- You are buying a job ticket. No certificate from either platform converts into employment by itself. Even the better-recognised Coursera credentials are an input to a job search, not a substitute for a portfolio and interviews.
Decision by situation
- Complete beginner who wants one guided road to data science: 365 Data Science. The tracks decide the sequence, and the free plan plus the 30-day guarantee make it cheap to be wrong.
- Career changer who needs a name-brand credential on the CV: Coursera — a single Professional Certificate at about $49 per month, typically $150–$300 over 3–6 months.
- Learner planning three or more programs this year: Coursera Plus Annual at $399, which beats the $450–$900 those programs could cost separately.
- Not yet sure data is even the field: the 365 Data Science free plan and Coursera’s free auditing, in either order, before any paid plan.
- A short intensive window, such as a one-month sprint: Coursera Plus Monthly at $59 with its 7-day trial, or 365 Data Science monthly at $36 if the sprint is a data track.
- Statistics and machine learning taught in order, with interview practice: 365 Data Science Self-Study, annual at $29 a month if you plan to finish a track.
Some learners run the two in sequence rather than choosing: a structured pass through a 365 Data Science track first, then a Coursera certificate for the recognisable name. That order costs less than it sounds if you use the free tiers to confirm fit before each purchase — but paying for both subscriptions at once is rarely sensible.
How to test both before committing
Both platforms publish enough free access and refund room to answer the fit question with behaviour instead of guesswork.
- Start with the 365 Data Science free plan. It needs no card. Watch the course previews in the career track that matches your goal, attempt one of the 51 projects, and use the one free AI mock interview. You are judging whether a sequenced, lecture-then-practice curriculum suits you.
- Audit a Coursera course in the same field. Many individual Coursera courses can be audited at no cost, which gives you the lectures and readings without graded assignments or a certificate. You are judging the teaching style and whether the breadth tempts you beyond one track.
- If Coursera wins, pick the route before the plan. One target program: subscribe to that certificate directly at about $49 per month. Three or more: Plus Annual at $399, using the refund request window of up to 14 days as your test period — and remember that certificates earned inside that window are revoked if you refund. Just testing the platform: the Plus Monthly 7-day free trial, cancelled before day 7 if the pace looks wrong.
- If 365 Data Science wins, pay with the guarantee as your net. Choose annual at $29 a month for a full track or monthly at $36 for one gap, set a reminder for day 25 of the 30-day money-back guarantee, and make the keep-or-refund decision on measured hours studied, not intentions.
Verify the current terms of the trials, the auditing option and the 30-day guarantee on the official pages before relying on them, since details may have changed after our checks on August 23 and 24, 2026.

Frequently asked questions
Is 365 Data Science better than Coursera?
They solve different problems. Coursera wins on credential weight and breadth: 10,000+ courses and certificates carrying Google, IBM, Meta and university names, per the official pages checked August 23, 2026. 365 Data Science wins on structure: 12 career tracks sequence 133 courses through statistics, Python, SQL and machine learning, with AI mock interviews and portfolio feedback, per the pages checked August 24, 2026. If the certificate name must open doors, choose Coursera; if you want one guided path through the subject, 365 Data Science is the more curriculum-like buy.
Which is cheaper for learning data science?
On annual subscriptions they are close: 365 Data Science Self-Study is $29 per month billed annually (about $348 a year, checked August 24, 2026) against $399 a year for Coursera Plus (checked August 23, 2026). On monthly billing 365 Data Science is $36 against $59 for Plus Monthly. But the cheapest Coursera route for one goal is usually a single Professional Certificate at about $49 per month, roughly $150 to $300 over a typical 3 to 6 months, which can undercut both subscriptions. Regional pricing and promotions may change what you see at checkout.
Do employers recognise these certificates?
Treat every certificate as supporting evidence rather than a guarantee. Coursera credentials from Google, IBM, Meta and universities carry more recognition than most online certificates, which is Coursera's main advantage in this comparison. 365 Data Science issues platform certificates for courses and tracks; they are evidence of completed work but do not carry a university or employer name. In either case, no certificate converts into employment by itself; data hiring tends to turn on portfolios and interviews, which the certificate supports but cannot replace.
Is there a free way to start on each?
Yes, on both. 365 Data Science has a free plan with no card required, including course previews, all 51 projects, exercises, practice exams, career resources and one AI mock interview; full courses and certificates need the paid Self-Study plan. On Coursera, many individual courses can be audited at no cost, which gives you the lectures and readings without graded assignments or a certificate, and Coursera Plus Monthly has a 7-day free trial. Verify the current terms on the official pages, as details may have changed after our checks in August 2026.
Does Coursera Plus include the Google Career Certificates?
Most Professional Certificates, including the Google Career Certificates in Data Analytics, IT Support, Project Management, Cybersecurity, UX Design and Digital Marketing, are included with Coursera Plus according to the official product page checked August 23, 2026. Coursera also says certain Professional Certificates are excluded and publishes no master list, so open your target program's page and confirm it shows the Coursera Plus label before subscribing. Degrees and MasterTrack certificates are never included in Plus.
Can I use both platforms together?
In sequence, sometimes; in parallel, rarely. A workable order is a structured pass through a 365 Data Science career track first, then a Coursera Professional Certificate for a recognisable name on the CV, using each platform's free tier to confirm fit before paying. Running both subscriptions at the same time means paying roughly $65 or more per month combined, and most learners cannot use two curriculums weekly. Pick the one that matches your current bottleneck, sequencing or credential, and add the other later if it still matters.
